Test & Tagging

Under current legislation, it is a requirement under the Occupational Health & Safety Section AS3760 20001 to have Electrical Equipment appliances etc. certified Tested and Tagged for safety compliance.

Types of appliances that require testing include:

computers
monitors
printers
photocopiers
fax machines
staff kitchen & tea room appliances
electric power tools
extension cords
power boards
all double insulated appliances
audio/visual apparatus
residual current devices (RCD's)
portable airconditioners
isolation transformers
desk lamps
vacuum cleaners
fork lift chargers
i.e. all portable plug in appliances

State of the art equipment to provide testing for:

earthing continuity

insulation resistance

RCD testing

earth leakage

wiring continuity

visual fault check

Records:

Thorough log books kept of all appliances tested and a copy
provided showing assets and test results.

Training:

Correct operation of RCD units can be taught to staff members for
standard safety testing and handling of electrical equipment.

Hazards may include:

frayed cords
wiring faults
safety switches not working
earthing system faulty
incorrect wiring
unsafe environment
exposure to moisture
